Reception is the beginning of an exciting school journey. We provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to be curious, creative and confident learners. Through play and hands-on experiences, children develop new skills, build relationships and grow in confidence, resilience and independence.
Autumn Term
This Autumn Term, our learning theme is “Who We Are.” We will focus on settling into Reception, learning our rules and routines, making friends and developing an understanding of ourselves, our bodies, families, likes and dislikes. In Literacy, we will enjoy stories such as From Head to Toe, Who Are You? and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, supporting children to develop their communication, language, early reading and writing skills.
We will begin our Floppy’s Phonics journey this term, developing children’s knowledge of letters and sounds through fun, engaging and practical sessions. Phonics is an important foundation for learning to read and write, and children will bring home activities to practise their learning. We encourage you to enjoy these activities together and support your child’s progress. In Maths, we will follow White Rose Maths, focusing on matching, sorting and comparing. We will also explore autumn through an Autumn Walk and enjoy special experiences including Multi-Cultural Day, Halloween and our Bedtime Story Experience. If you have any questions about your child’s learning or phonics, please speak to a member of staff — we are always happy to help.
Reminders!
- Please read with your child every day for at least 5 minutes.
- Please bring your child’s book bag to school every day.
- Please take care of reading books, as lost or damaged books will incur a £5 replacement charge.
- PE is on Mondays. Please send your child to school wearing their PE kit.
- Please ensure your child wears the correct school uniform and school shoes.

- School jumper or cardigan with school logo
- White shirt or polo shirt
- Black or grey trousers
- Black or grey skirt/dress
- Black school shoes
Please make sure that all uniform, coats and personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
