Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Class RABB – Mrs Bashir and Mrs Akhtar

Class RBS – Miss Seddon and Mrs Mahmood

Mrs Jones – HLTA , Mrs Shaheen - EYFS SEN support.

At Edgewick we follow the three school rules; Be Kind, Be Ready, Be Respectful.

In Reception, children begin their school journey in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where curiosity and creativity are at the heart of learning. Through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences, children develop the essential building blocks for future success—growing in confidence, resilience, and independence.

This Spring term, our learning theme is How the world works. Children will learn about growing and changing within the natural environment. We will be planting our own seeds, helping them to grow and learning about life cycles. We will be learning with some very special guests of our own...caterpillars!

Books are the windows into learning and valuable resources in the classroom. To support our learning this term we will be reading 'Jack and the beanstalk', 'The little red hen', 'The very hungry caterpillar' and finishing off with 'A very happy Easter'.

In Maths the children will continue to explore numbers, looking particularly at numbers 8, 9 and 10. We will also be exploring measurement, looking at length and height. It is important children are using language like mathematicians e.g. "long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, more and less"

The children will be exploring the Spring weather as it gets warmer and lighter outdoors. We are excited to announce we will be visiting Ryton Pools Nature Park to explore nature.

We have set up Floppy's Phonics online for parents. This will allow you to access the teaching tools we use in school as well as some ebooks for reading. If you're not sure how to log on, please ask a member of staff. We will gladly help you!
