The children are using the environment with confidence, we focus our planning on the children’s interest enabling them to play and learn. The children learn through their play and access resources linked to the 7 areas of learning;

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical development

  • Mathematics-focused group work daily using White Rose maths

  • Personal, social and emotional

  • Literacy- phonics group work daily using the Floppy's Phonics scheme

  • Understanding the world

  • Expressive arts and design- looking at artists and skills

  •

  • We send ½ termly letters outlining what your child will be learning in class for each of the developmental areas.

We provide fun and stimulating activities to meet the needs of all children as every child is unique. The staff ensure that children develop positive relationships to become confident and independent learners.

This Autumn half term we are reading 'The colour monster', 'Owl babies' and 'Funny bones'.

The colour monster: we will be using this story to explore colours and feelings in a fun and gentle way, which links into understanding ourselves and our emotions.

Owl babies: we are going to use this to support children’s transition from home to school, which links into family and feelings, happy, sad, scared.

Funny bones: this story allows the children to learn about what lies beneath the surface of their own body, skeleton and exploring what our body needs to grow

During this half term, we will be using our five senses of touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing, we will experience and investigate the environment around us. Also, we will be exploring our body: We will learn what we need to help us grow and the different parts of the body.

Our Maths will be focused on sorting and classifications, such as separating colours. The children will then be moving on to exploring 2D shapes.

Reception will be going out into the wider community to enhance their learning. They will be walking alongside Foleshill Road to observe features of their community and surroundings.

The rest of our learning is play based. Children learn through their interactions with the engaging environment and welcoming staff.

We have set up Floppy's Phonics online for parents. This will allow you to access the teaching tools we use in school as well as some ebooks for reading. If you're not sure how to log on, please ask a member of staff. We will gladly help you!
