GDPR / Data Protection Introduction
Our school is committed to protecting the personal data of our pupils, families, staff, and visitors. We handle all personal information in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
We collect and use personal data to support the education, safety, and wellbeing of our pupils, as well as to meet our legal and statutory responsibilities as a school. This includes information needed to provide educational services, communicate with parents and carers, and ensure the effective day-to-day running of the school.
We take our responsibilities seriously and ensure that personal data is handled lawfully, fairly, and securely. This page, and the policies within it, provides information about how we collect, store, and use personal data, as well as the rights individuals have under data protection law.
Privacy and Confidentiality Introduction
Our school recognises the importance of respecting and protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our pupils, families, and staff. We are committed to ensuring that personal and sensitive information is treated with care, respect, and professionalism at all times.
Staff are expected to handle confidential information responsibly and share it only when it is necessary to support a child’s education, wellbeing, or safeguarding, and always in line with school policies and legal requirements.
Maintaining confidentiality helps us build trust with pupils, parents, and the wider community while ensuring that information is used appropriately to support learning, safety, and effective school operations.
The school recognises that information about a child is confidential and must be handled in accordance with data protection legislation and safeguarding guidance. Information relating to a pupil will only be shared with individuals who hold parental responsibility (PR) for that child, unless there is a legal requirement or safeguarding reason to do otherwise. Family members or other adults who do not have parental responsibility will not be provided with information about a pupil’s education, wellbeing, attendance, progress, or any other school matters. This includes verbal discussions, written communication, and access to school systems or records. Where requests for information are made by individuals who do not hold parental responsibility, the school will decline to share information and may advise them to contact the parent or carer who holds PR.
CCTV
Our school is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all pupils, staff, and visitors. As part of this commitment, we operate a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) system on school premises. The system is used to support the safety and wellbeing of our school community, to protect school property, and to assist in the prevention and detection of incidents where necessary.
We take the privacy of individuals very seriously. The use of CCTV at our school is managed in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This page, and the policies within it, explain why CCTV is used, how images and recordings are handled, how long footage is retained, and the rights individuals have in relation to personal data captured by the system.
Our aim is to ensure that CCTV is used responsibly, transparently, and only for legitimate purposes that support the effective running and safeguarding of the school.
