Year 3
Welcome to Year 3! Mrs McFall, Mr Nicholls and Miss Kockiri are the Year 3 teachers with Miss Pettifor, Mrs Mattu and Mrs Roberts as supporting staff. We want the children in our year group to be happy individuals with a love for learning. We work hard together as a team of adults and children in a supportive, kind environment.
We want our children to love coming into school to learn with us. In Year 3 it is our aim for all children to feel happy, valued and heard. We work hard to ensure all children are included by offering a wide range of teaching approaches and we encourage a team ethos between all children and adults to help us be the best we can be.
Our Autumn topic in Year 3 is 'Set in Stone'.
In this unit, pupils will explore what life was like during the Stone Age. They will learn how early humans lived, what tools they used, what they ate, and how they adapted to survive in their environment. The unit will focus on the three key periods of the Stone Age – the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic – and how human life changed over time. Pupils will use historical enquiry skills to ask and answer questions, examine sources, and make comparisons with life today. As part of this topic, we will be investigating rocks for science. The learning objectives will:
compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties
describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock
recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.
Our English will focus around books linked to our topic and skills will include:
expanded noun phrase
fronted adverbials for time and place
co-ordinating conjunctions (or, and, but, so, yet)
Our maths learning we will be concentrating on place value - of three digit numbers (100s, 10s and 1s).
PLEASE NOTE: - We have P. E. on Wednesday. Both indoor and outdoor P.E. kits are needed this term.
Homework is given every Friday and should be returned the following Monday.
In Year 3 we expect children to read at home every day. Please listen to your child read daily and complete the reading diary.
